Safe Passage for Children
Vision
We envision Minnesota’s Child Welfare System as a racially just system that is prevention based and utilizes best practices and data. The system will protect the safety and well-being of children involved in the system while simultaneously respecting and nurturing their families.
Mission
The mission of Safe Passage for Children is to protect and improve the well-being of children in Minnesota’s child protection, foster care, and public adoption programs.
Safe Passage will lead a campaign to build a child welfare system in Minnesota that:
· Improves the current child welfare system so children are safer a better cared for
· Reduces the need for child protection and out of home placements by helping families early, when indicators of abuse and neglect first emerge
· Continuously improves performance
Overall Goal
Reform and refinance Minnesota’s Child Welfare System so that it protects the well-being of children involved in the system.
Major Strategies:
- Build a statewide organization to train and support citizen advocates advocating for children in the system and holding it accountable for results on an ongoing basis.
- Research, assemble and disseminate key data to track outcomes and drive improvements.
- Conduct a citizen-led reform campaign to refinance and redesign the child welfare system by 2015.
