 Vision

We envision Minnesota’s Child Welfare System as a racially just system that is prevention based and utilizes best practices and data.  The system will protect the safety and well-being of children involved in the system while simultaneously respecting and nurturing their families.

Mission

The mission of Safe Passage for Children is to protect and improve the well-being of children in Minnesota’s child protection, foster care, and public adoption programs.

Safe Passage will lead a campaign to build a child welfare system in Minnesota that:

·         Improves the current child welfare system so children are safer a better cared for

·         Reduces the need for child protection and out of home placements by helping families early, when indicators of abuse and neglect first emerge

·         Continuously improves performance

Overall Goal

Reform and refinance Minnesota’s Child Welfare System so that it protects the well-being of children involved in the system.

Major Strategies:

  1. Build a statewide organization to train and support citizen advocates advocating for children in the system and holding it accountable for results on an ongoing basis.

  1. Research, assemble and disseminate key data to track outcomes and drive improvements.

  1. Conduct a citizen-led reform campaign to refinance and redesign the child welfare system by 2015.
